This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies the Cavanis journal uses, why, and how you can control them. It should be read with our Privacy Policy.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies, such as scripts and local storage, work in comparable ways. This policy uses “cookies” to cover all of them.
How we use them
We follow the UK’s Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). We set only strictly necessary cookies without asking. Everything else is optional, is switched off by default, and does not load until you choose to allow it.
Change your choices at any time
When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or reject optional cookies with equal ease. You can review or change your choices whenever you like:
The Cookie settings button also sits in the footer of every page and, once you have made a choice, as a small round button at the bottom left of the screen. Switching a category off removes the related cookies we are able to remove and stops the script from loading on later pages.
Strictly necessary cookies
These cannot be switched off. They do not track you across websites and are not used for advertising.

Optional categories and exactly what they control
Embedded media
Videos and other players hosted by other companies, such as YouTube and Vimeo, are replaced by a placeholder. Nothing is requested from the provider until you press “Load this content”, or you switch on Embedded media in Cookie settings. Once loaded, the provider may set its own cookies and receive your IP address. We do not control these cookies, and their names and lifetimes can change, so please see the provider’s policy:
- YouTube (we use the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com address where possible): policies.google.com/technologies/cookies
- Vimeo: vimeo.com/cookie_policy
Videos stored in our own media library are not third-party embeds and play without this consent.
Analytics
No analytics tool is in use at present, so this switch controls nothing. [OWNER TO CONFIRM: if you later add analytics, name the tool, its cookies and their lifetimes here. The theme will ask visitors for consent again automatically.]
Marketing
No advertising or social media marketing tools are in use at present. The switch is included so that your choice will be respected if that changes.
Controlling cookies in your browser
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so can stop strictly necessary functions, such as remembering your cookie choices, from working. Guidance for common browsers is available from the Information Commissioner’s Office.
If you reject optional cookies
Everything you need to read the journal still works. You can browse stories, wines, wineries, photos and the restaurant’s contact details. Videos show a placeholder with a link to watch them on the provider’s own website.
Changes to this policy
If we add or change an optional cookie or script, we will update this page and ask for your choices again.
